Journeys International Announces New Trips for 2018

Posted on August 17, 2017 by Journeys International

The year was 1978, and Drs. Will and Joan Weber set off to Nepal with a group of curious souls who wanted to be immersed in and enlightened by a different culture in a very different part of the world. And so began Journeys International, the first travel company of its kind (and recently named one of the top six tour operators on the world), with boots on the ground and arms wide open, ready to embrace the world’s diversity.

It’s only fitting that as Journeys enters its 40th year, it continues to break down barriers and explore the cultural and ethnic differences of the world. And given the current climate of the United States, it’s more important than ever that Journeys stays focused on its mission of turning travel into an extraordinary adventure that sparks human connection, personal insight, global awareness, and the courage to be yourself.

As Mark Twain famously wrote, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness ….” So as Journeys planned for 2018, the company chose to broaden its offerings with new, unexpected, and unique adventures that would lend a hand towards minimizing bigotry.

After all, it’s so much more than travel; it's a way to help tear down walls and revel in the beauty of global diversity.

On this trip, spend your days discovering the gourmet restaurants, impressive art scenes, fine beaches, and some of the world’s best wines. And, or course, experience the astonishing range of wildlife roaming freely across massive unfenced reserves.

Volcanoes and Villages of Southern Italy

Day6---Etna---Piano-Provenzana.jpgExpert geologist Ian Lange joins this unusual exploration of Italy's Southern volcanic region, where travelers will climb various volcanoes to learn about the unique history and geology of each one, as well as explore the famous sites of Pompeii, Stromboli and Mount Etna and the villages and cities of Rome, Naples, and Matera.

Azores Archipelago Revealed

Ilha_do_Faial_Horta_City_Futurismo-593x.jpgShhhh...don't tell anybody. We've discovered what may just be the best-kept secret in the entire Atlantic Ocean. It's the Azores, nine islands about 800 miles off the coast of Portugal. And with hiking volcanoes, swimming in natural thermal pools, whale watching and more, this adventure is the best way to experience it.

Magnificent Myanmar for Women

Festival-edited.jpgThis women's-only adventure in Myanmar provides the opportunity to proceed at a more contemplative pace, with time for in-depth exploration and opportunity for cross-cultural interaction. Travelers enjoy encounters arranged especially for this women's group, such as meeting with women's organizations, village groups, and fabric artists.

Journey into Jordan

Camels-Sunset-593x393.jpgExplore Jordan from top to bottom on a cultural journey that goes from the splendid Nabatean ruins at Petra, to the Bedouin camps nestled in picturesque desert wadis, to homes of contemporary Jordanians. Splash in the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, and the Siq water trail at Wadi Mujib, and get lost in the sands and seas of the desert.
